Samu - The Journey
Check out my latest video blog on my Young Scientist journey.
What has been the best part of the process so far?
The best part of the entire process has definitely been watching my initial concept grow into a full on usable application. Even after having worked on the project for several months, I can still feel the initial excitement I had during my “Ah ha!” moment all the way back in my 7th period science class. Taking that idea and developing it from the ground up has definitely been quite the roller coaster ride, filled with all kinds of ups and downs, but looking back on it now I can definitely say that it’s largely contributed to who I am both as an individual and creator.
What part has been the most challenging?
When it comes to working on any sort of long term project, I’m sure anyone can tell you how difficult it can be to maintain a sense of positive motivation to actually finish. It was no different with my project. Back when I began working on my project in June, there was a large rush of inspiration and motivation with all the initial hype made by friends and family. As I got further and further into my application, pure curiosity and passion was enough to keep me working on developing my ideas and application. But as the back-to-school TV ads began rolling out, things started to slow down. Especially as I began my transition into high school, I often found myself struggling to balance my project with my new heap of schoolwork, sports, and extracurriculars.
What has the summer mentorship with a 3M scientist meant to you? / How has access to a 3M scientist helped you?
Working with my 3M mentor Kandyce has honestly been an amazing experience. Being able to connect and work with her personally has allowed me to explore and develop ideas productively and with proper direction. When taking on such a large concept, having someone with prior experience to help break it down into manageable chunks has been key to having gotten as far as I have. Having access to her continued guidance and support made the entire project feel a lot more approachable and achievable.
