Tip Tuesday: Think Like a Scientist
Kick off the Scientific Process
This year’s 3M Young Scientist Challenge asks a big question: How can you improve lives for the future?
Thankfully, scientists throughout the centuries have proven that the scientific method is the best way to answer big questions!
Use our project template (found here!) to help guide you through the the scientific method. To get started, grab your YSC 'Idea Notebook'. On every other page, write the following headers:
- Make Observations
- Identify the Problem
- Narrow Down Your Problem
- Brainstorm Solutions
- Focus on One Idea
- Elaborate on Your Idea
- Research
- Your Plan
- Conclusions
- Write Out a Script
- Submit your Video!
Then decide where you are in the process and focus only on that step for a few days. For tricks and tips at each step reference the project template. Be sure not to rush: A scientist moves carefully through the scientific method, so thoroughly complete one step before you move on to the next! Happy Innovating!
Follow us on Twitter @3M and @DiscoveryEd and share where you are in the scientific process using #YoungScientist.
