Rithvik - Hello fellow scientists!
First off, Hello! I’m Rithvik, and I live in Plano, Texas. Through this blog, I am glad to connect with you and share my summer progress. I am so excited and honored to be selected as a finalist this year. I can’t wait to see how my ideas can start to transform into something that could touch the lives of people as this journey unfolds. Additionally, I hope I can grow into a better scientist and problem-solver through this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
I first learned about the competition after reading about it in a packet provided by my science teacher. I was inspired to enter this prestigious competition to meet and share ideas with like-minded participants, share my work and experiences on this huge platform, and connect with a brilliant and experienced 3M scientist.
Creating the video seemed easy at first, but it didn’t take long to figure out that it was going to be challenging. I had entered this project at many science fairs before, so I had to make use of my previous presentations and adjust it to the video format. With hours of filming, revising, and editing, my video was complete.
I anxiously waited for the results in June. I constantly kept checking to see how many views my Youtube video had. I was thrilled to see that the view count kept on increasing. Wait a second, that’s just me watching it over-and-over again!
After the 1st week of June passed, I began to feel anxious, but still hopeful. Surprisingly, I had missed a call from another state, and realized it was from Discovery Education. After calling back and receiving the good news, I was humbled and excited. Around 15 minutes later, I left on a 8000+ mile trip to India, constantly thinking about the scientific journey ahead of me. After my friends, family, and school were informed, I received lots of congratulations and appreciation. This motivated me to work even harder for this competition.
If I were to win the title of “America’s top young scientist”, I would use it as a way to inspire other upcoming young scientists to get more involved in tackling real-world problems. The 25,000 dollars would be divided and used to further develop my discovery. I would also donate significantly to dementia charity/research organizations to make a lasting impact for the future.
I am very honored to be selected as a finalist. A big thank you goes to Discovery Education and 3M for sponsoring this innovative and life-changing competition.
