Raghav Ganesh - My Experience

This past summer has been amazing as I continue to work on my innovation. In the process of brainstorming, researching, designing, and performing my experiments, I have gained a lot of knowledge on the problem area that I am working on.  I also have the opportunity to interact with my awesome 3M mentor, Dr. Kris Thunhorst, who is an amazing scientist.

Through our weekly meetings and discussions, I have learned so much about the scientific process while improving my scientific design and data analysis skills. I have also learned to think broadly, explore various ideas, assess scientific data both qualitatively and quantitatively, and draw inferences. My 3M mentor has also been my gateway to other 3M contacts and a great sounding board for all my ideas.

The testing phase has been very challenging. Testing the various components of my solution individually and then as an integrated system requires a lot of iterations, systematic changes, and improvements.

When the design finally works and gives successful results after many rounds of testing and repeated trials, it feels very encouraging; these are the special moments that inspire me to enthusiastically proceed with the next steps of my project. This has been one of the best parts of the process, and the mentorship of a 3M scientist has definitely been the main highlight of my summer. My incredible experience with Dr. Thunhorst has been the catalyst in journey towards becoming a better scientist.
