Meet Reeny. She has a passion for fashion as well as helping people. Couple that with her love of the challenge math and science bring and you get the makings of a fashion forward future doctor. Her Young Scientist Challenge entry illustrates how science can improve lives in many different ways – all while being a lot of fun in the process.
Why did you enter the Young Scientist Challenge?
I really like that the Young Scientist Challenge gives kids like me a chance to share their innovations to make the world a better place.
What is your favorite invention of the last 100 years, and why?
This year was my fourth year on my robotics team. I was the programmer for my subgroup's robot, and, after LOTS of challenges along the way, my robot won a perfect thousand points on competition day. I was also selected for my team's oral presentation team, and I explained to the judges the lessons my team learned. The presentation won 693 points! Finally, I was my team's notebook leader, so I was in charge of putting together the team's technical notebook, which won 950 points! I was especially proud of all this because all these points helped my team towards winning second place overall at the end of the day!
In 15 years I hope to be...
When I grow up, I'm going to be a doctor. I really have a passion for helping people, and that plus my passion for style equals one very fashion-forward physician.
Experiments are the BEST way to learn science because they let me see science in action with my own eyes. I love the experiments we do in science classes because they help me see, understand, and remember how all the science concepts work together to create different phenomena in the world.
